Background and [edit]

On 12 March 2013 the group released equally a music video for "Breakdown", a track that features Benji Madden of Skilful Charlotte.[vi] In March and Apr 2013, the group supported The Story And then Far and Man Overboard on their co-headlining U.s.a. tour, dubbed The Suppy Nation Tour.[7] Sessions were held at Sapphire Beach Acreage in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, with producer and engineer Dave Petrovic. Dan Korneff mixed the recordings at Sonic Debris Recording Studio in New York Urban center, United States; Brad Blackwood mastered the album at Euphonic Masters.[viii]

Composition [edit]

Vocalizer Jenna McDougall spoke to Alternative Printing virtually the record:

"There are definitely some sad songs on the anthology, and I think in that location are a few heartbreakers, merely there are also songs like 'The Fire' that'south a super-liberating, empowering punk song. I'one thousand so proud of that vocal because the lyrics are really passionate, affirmative and positive, just the music is really aggressive. [...]
"Nosotros are quite, not a bipolar ring, but I think this anthology is really about finding our sound only at the same fourth dimension also accepting that we don't have one particular sound. Not all our songs are going to be the aforementioned, and you can't put them nether the aforementioned umbrella. Some of them are poppy, some of them are really heavy and some of them are somewhere in the middle. We establish a balance on this record, and I'1000 proud of that because I remember information technology's but being true as man beings. Yous can be at both ends of the scale."[nine]

McDougall explained that there is "a lot more than cohesive [because] I know my phonation a lot better. I'm excited because the songs have got a very pop structure only [they've] however got a lot of edge."[10] The championship rail was originally three verses longer but the band edited the track down.[11] This original version was more country-orientated and was inspired past "Your Guardian Angel" by the Scarlet Jumpsuit Apparatus. Information technology was edited downwards equally the band expected the vocal to be released as a single and work "better as a radio vocal", according to McDougall. She found the decision "difficult for me" as the song was personal to her. The chorus was completely rewritten a moment before McDougall was going to record her vocals for the song. It "tells the story of going from existence friends to falling in love, and then the complications that followed before becoming just friends again."[12]
